- A family history of eye disease or congenital eye disorders
- Diabetes or hypertension
- Poor vision
- A visually-demanding or eye-hazardous job

- Sudden hazy or blurred vision
- Flashes of light or black spots
- Halos or rainbow around light
- Curtain-like blotting of vision
