Laser Vision Correction
Considerations
How will I know if I am suitable?
You may be a good candidate if you:
- Feel that spectacles/contact lenses are a nuisance in your job, sporting activities or personal life.
- Have had stable vision for the past 2 years.
- Have healthy eyes, good general health and are not taking medication that affects the healing process.
Age - Your surgeon might think it wise to postpone treatment if you are under 21.
Are There Limits To Correction?
The maximum limit of correction obtainable with LASIK varies from one laser to another, but it's typically about -12 diopters of myopia. Depending on the model of laser used, the limit for treating hyperopia is +4.00 to +6.00 diopters, and for astigmatism, -3.00 to -5.00 diopters.
Is it permanent?
Yes, Zyoptix® treatment is permanent. One treatment is all that most people need. However, a few patients may need some additional fine-tuning (re-treatment) to get the desired vision correction.
Can I resume my normal routine?
You can get back to your normal routine. Many patients return to work the next day. However, as a safety precaution, you should refrain from contact sports and swimming for about a month.
What will I experience after treatment?
You may experience some eye discomfort such as watery eyes straight after the treatment. During the normal healing process, the refractive power of your eyes and your vision may vary for the first few weeks. These symptoms are quite normal and will disappear in time.
